Te Papa: Visionaires
Fine art screen print design commissioned by the innovation hub of the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, Mahuki. A campaign image used to launch the innovation hub in its inaugural year.
Mahuki is Te Papa's innovation incubator, helping to develop ideas into world-leading digital experiences for the cultural sector.
Through Mahuki, leading edge technology will take us beyond a static museum wall and engage us in rich storytelling, immersing us in new realities through sound, sight and touch. A new wave of innovators who have the vision, desire and drive will take part in Mahuki's four month programme with the opportunity to pitch their new applications to an international market.
I was commissioned to create a dynamic artwork to mark this new era of innovation and to inspire the businesses within and visitors to the Mahuki programme. Within the design, wild wonderful characters combine and show us that vision, perception, relentless searching and observation are the key to these new realities.
Printed and framed as an oversized A2 artwork in the hub space itself, and used as the hero design for merchandise, the artwork aims to inspire the Innovator within and remind us that new realities are possible.
Personalities from vintage pop culture (spot The Jetsons, Moon Dragon, Inspector Gadget etc), combined with excerpts from vintage comics, sci-fi magazines and the Te Papa collection itself are remixed to full effect to create a hyper-future where minds and markets are open to opportunity.
